Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Law successfully hosted the 2025 Annual Meeting of the International Association of Law Schools (IALS) on September 8–9, 2025, at the Faculty of Law. The meeting was inaugurated by Professor Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, welcoming more than 111 participants —including deans, associate deans, senior legal educators, and—from 34 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, representing more than 75 law schools and research institutions.

IALS 2025 featured a dynamic agenda of plenary lectures, panel sessions, and interactive workshops. Kishore Mahbubani, Singapore’s former Ambassador to the UN and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered the keynote address, offering insightful perspectives on legal education, global governance, and emerging international law challenges.

The conference pursued three core objectives:

• to strengthen international cooperation in legally responding to global challenges such as AI in law, access to justice, and evolving governance;

• to explore innovative education strategies—such as integrating interdisciplinary theory-and-practice curricula, experiential learning, and design thinking; and

• to lay the groundwork for joint research initiatives, faculty exchanges, and co-education programs

Participants returned home with strengthened institutional bonds in research, teaching, and educational initiatives—and, just as importantly, with new friendships forged during the cultural tour on September 10, following the academic sessions. Participants immersed themselves in Thailand’s rich heritage through a thoughtfully curated tour that included strolling through Yaowarat’s Chinatown and Wat Mangkon Kamalawat, cruising along the Chao Phraya River, and visiting the Grand Palace—an experience that fostered friendship while deepening their appreciation of Thailand’s cultural heritage.
